The Sensory garden has been taking shape all through the winter months and the place has been a veritable hive of industry. Some lovely photos on the Tidy Towns page and we await the soon to be announced official opening .. I can’t wait………….
Hope everyone has survived the turkey or turkey(s) as this stage. Hope you all had a lovely christmas and enjoyed the company of family and good friends. As we start a new year let us rejoice in the little things we take for granted family, friends and neighbours.. Happy New Year to you all.
Recipe for a Good New Year
Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time.
Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.
Well, the long awaited play has been performed and well received on two packed nights in the local hall. I have not heard so much laughter in a long time, it was an absolute tonic. Thank you very much to our audiences on both nights who supported us it was greatly appreciated and we wont know what to do with our time now. Thanks also to a brilliant cast who did a wonderful job.
As part of the TRADE Residency programme run by Roscommon and Leitrim Arts Departments Black Hole Studio will be hosting a free portrait session by the portrait and video artist David Michalek some day during next week, October 17-21, 2011 (exact day and time to be confirmed). David Michalek has worked on Calvin Klein campaigns and for Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines and will photograph anyone who is willing to add their face to the campaign intended to raise awareness of Fracking (Hydraulic Fracturing).
Fracking is the process of extracting gases from deep within shale rock. In places where fracking has already taken place there has been a rise in cancer rates, death to livestock and water contamination. In Pennsylvania methane has risen to 17 times the normal levels near fracking sites. Exploration licenses for fracking have been issued in Leitrim, Fermanagh, Roscommon & Sligo. Pat Rabbitte, the Minister for Communications, Energy & Natural resources has asked the EPA to conduct a study over concerns raised by residents in these areas.
To find out more, keep an eye on this web-site where the exact date and time of the photo session will take place. Please come along to have your portrait taken for free and where members of ENGAGE, a collective set up by the TRADE Residency artists, will have further information. All family members are welcome as we would like to have all ages represented in the campaign photos. Alternatively, you can contact Black Hole Studio to show your interest who will then inform you directly when the shoot is taking place.
The A.G.M for the Town Development will take place on Monday September 26th at 9.pm in the Village Hall. A new committee needs to be formed to continue the good works of the group. The Tidy towns and Town Development work hand in hand to help gain funds and grants for projects in the village which assist Tidy Towns and help make this a nice place for us all to live. Please come along if you are interested.
It was a pleasure to note that most, if not all, derelict properties in Frenchpark were neatly presented and this is a lesson to all TidyTowns participants, take a bow Frenchpark! The combination of the artwork programme and the treatment of derelict premises, sites and walls is most effective. Well done on your participation in An Taisce Litter Free Zone programme and good luck with your project at Eden House which is to be entered in the Dulux Let’s Colour project.
